WATCH: Phillie Phanatic refuses to take a picture with a Braves fan at Citizens Bank Park

While Ronald Acuna Jr. was busy ripping the hearts out of every Phillies fan in the building yesterday, the Phillie Phanatic was over in the stands doing the Lord’s work, flatly refusing to take a picture with an Atlanta Braves fan in attendance.

Good. At least somebody within the Phillies organization was willing to take a stand for something, because Lord knows no pitcher on the mound wanted to set things straight… yet.

Let me get into the Braves fans for a second, because they earned it this weekend. They are, without question, the worst. I have genuinely never seen a bigger collection of non-baseball-knowing fans anywhere on the internet, and yesterday put it on full display. Paper Tigers.

That’s the best way to describe the whole lot of them. We all know they’re terrified of what happens if they actually have to play a game in October in South Philadelphia, and we all know they’re overly protective of Acuna himself, because the man is so fragile even a strong gust of wind might end his season.

What happened to the unwritten rules of baseball?

Reading the replies from these people, you’d think they collectively started watching the sport last Tuesday. A guy stares down your dugout, bat-flips, does a road curtain call, and their fanbase acts scandalized that anyone would suggest he get one put in his ribs.

That’s how it’s always worked. That’s baseball, right? I certainly thought so until I had to try explaining it to a fanbase that discovered the game five minutes ago. Shame on me.

Whatever. The real hero of the weekend was the Phanatic, refusing to give these cockroaches in the stands the time of day.

Stand for something or fall for everything, and the Phanatic stood tall. That’s the energy we needed from SOMEONE in Phillies gear this weekend.

And while we’re at it, fuck Blooper too.
