Seth Joyner calls out Spike Eskin over his Jalen Hurts hate & everyone in Philadelphia is loving it

Just when I told myself I was officially done reacting to anything WIP-related, I logged onto Twitter for the night and saw Seth Joyner bust the doors down over at the Tasty Kake studios or whatever they call that place these days. Thank God he did, because somebody needed to say it… again.

Spike Eskin went on another one of his tired, worn-out Jalen Hurts rants, basically begging Philadelphia to “just be honest about what we see every week” like there’s anyone out there outside of himself not being honest.

That’s the whole problem though right? Nobody is out here saying Jalen Hurts is going to win MVP because he beat Washington and Tennessee. Nobody is handing him the Super Bowl trophy in September either, but can we please stop pretending we’re talking about some random quarterback who just wandered in off the street?

That’s exactly what guys like Joe Giglio, Spike Eskin, and whichever WIP plant you want to throw in there keep doing.

This is year seven of Jalen Hurts. He’s won a Super Bowl. He’s been to another Super Bowl. He’s won a Super Bowl MVP. He’s become one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the entire history of this franchise.

Yet every single time he plays well, we get the same exact broken-record conversation:

“We’ll see. It’s only been two weeks. He doesn’t throw the ball enough. He has too much help.”

Blah, blah, blah. On loop, forever. That is what guys like Joe Giglio, Spike Eskin, and which ever WIP plant you want to throw in there has done.

Enter Seth Joyner

This is precisely where Seth Joyner hopped into the conversation and dunked all over Spike Eskin. He pointed out that he’s criticized Hurts when Hurts actually deserved criticism.

He just didn’t spend his entire existence trying to convince everyone the quarterback sucks. That is the difference, the whole ballgame right there. There’s a canyon between fair criticism and building your entire media personality around tearing a guy down, and Joyner nailed it.

While we’re here, let me pile on, because Seth is speaking for every Eagles fan with a functioning brain. If Hurts had started this season 0-2 and looked terrible, you KNOW we’d be hearing about it.

Every single day the phone lines would be lit up.

Tanner McKee would somehow be trending. Somebody would be seriously asking if the Eagles made a mistake building around him. Because Hurts is 2-0 and just led a game-winning touchdown drive in Tennessee, now suddenly everybody needs to “calm down”?

Please. The double standard is the entire scam, and everyone can see it.

The Eagles Have a Damn Good Quarterback (Probably the Best in Franchise History)

You don’t have to believe Jalen Hurts is the greatest quarterback alive. You don’t even have to love every single thing about his game. Criticize him when he deserves it. That’s sports but this constant, exhausting need to hunt for the next reason why Hurts somehow isn’t good enough?

I’m exhausted, you’re exhausted, and even the rival station 97.5 is exhausted.

Hell, they even started a “Club Hurts” for the real fans to gather and appreciate and discuss Jalen the right way.

At the end of the day, the only way to actually settle this is for Spike to man up and have a real debate with Seth Joyner but I won’t be holding my breath on that one. Jalen Hurts is already stamped. His legacy in this city, all the accomplishments on the field this early in his career, it’s cemented. Now he’s just stacking onto it and anyone getting in the way of that or doubting him at this point is simply a clown.

Spike Eskin Is a Clown

I don’t know Spike personally, so I can’t speak on who he actually is as a person but all I know is that somebody employed to talk about the Philadelphia Eagles full-time, who spends that time trying to tear down Jalen Hurts, shouldn’t be taken seriously.

Jalen is a role model for millions of athletes and people all across the globe, and he’s directly responsible for the current greatest era in Philadelphia Eagles football. How soon we’ve all forgotten that he walked into a 4-win team that had just been completely blown up. A first-time head coach and an aging roster and Jalen immediately came in and changed the entire culture for the better.

Sure, he had Howie Roseman and a few all-time aging Eagles greats alongside him. Nobody’s denying the help but Jalen Hurts has been here the whole time, and he only appears to be getting better. Are we shocked? I’m not anymore.
