Presidents Cup: Disastrous Friday sends Americans into the weekend down 7-3

There’s no spinning this one, so I won’t even try. Friday was a full-blown embarrassment for the US Presidents Cup team. A clean sweep for the International side, and now the Americans limp into the weekend trailing 7-3. Just pathetic.

This isn’t like two years ago in Canada when we got swept on Friday. At least back then we swept the International team on Thursday and headed into the weekend all square at 5-5. This time, we’re down 7-3, and honestly, we’re lucky to only be down 7-3.

It could’ve been worse. That cannot happen, and it especially cannot happen right after we just got humiliated by Europe at Bethpage. Two straight international team events, two straight beatdowns.

Instead of a response, it was the same old tired garbage we’ve all gotten way too used to watching from Team USA at the Ryder Cup and now the Presidents Cup.

Missing a ton of putts while the other team is absolute nails when it matters. Every single time. It’s maddening.

This International team isn’t even great. This is far from the strongest group they’ve ever assembled. We should be boat-racing these guys, or at the very least be in firm control heading into the weekend. Instead we’re getting smacked around by a squad we’re supposed to be more talented than on paper.

there’s still a whole lot of golf left out there. You’ve got the morning best ball tomorrow, alternate shot in the afternoon, and then 12 singles on Sunday. The US can absolutely still win this thing. The comeback is on the table. But something has to get fixed, and fast, because what we saw today is not going to cut it.

The pairings have been painfully predictable, which would be totally fine if you’re playing decent golf but you can’t be predictable and get run off the course.

Everybody keeps talking about how loaded this US team is, how it’s a collection of the best players in the world, and all I keep seeing is a bunch of cowards getting slapped around in match play on the global stage. Over and over again.

The talent is there. The heart, the killer instinct, the ability to actually make a putt when it counts? Nowhere to be found and until that changes, we’re going to keep watching these embarrassments pile up.

You’ve got the weekend to save face. Wake up, make some putts, and show some fight.
