THE FIGHTINS: Alec Bohm’s kill shot lifts Phillies to NL Wild Card Game 3 in Atlanta
That game took a few years off my life. The Phillies were staring at the end of their season in Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon, and they clawed their way out of it with a 4-3 win in 10 innings to even the Wild Card Series at a game apiece.
Alec Bohm Delivers
They ain’t called the Fightins for nothing.
With the game tied in the top of the 10th, Alec Bohm stepped up and drove a solo home run to right field to give the Phillies the lead.
That’s the biggest swing of his postseason career, and it came at the exact moment this team needed someone to take the game over. The Fightins carried a one-run lead into the bottom of the 10th, and they held it.
Harper Made Up for His Mistake Fast:
For a stretch there, it looked like the Phillies were done. Bryce Harper misplayed a fly ball in right field, and the Braves took advantage to grab the lead. In an elimination game on the road, that’s the kind of play that usually ends a season.
Instead, Kyle Schwarber and Harper went back to back to tie it up. Harper didn’t let his mistake hang over the game for long. He erased it with one swing, and that’s what your best players are supposed to do in October.
Sánchez Battled:
Cristopher Sánchez didn’t have his best stuff, but he gave the Phillies exactly what they needed. He went 6.2 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts.
The five walks were a lot, and he was working out of trouble for most of the afternoon, but getting into the seventh inning with this bullpen was a massive deal. Alex McFarlane came in and finished off the seventh for him.
Andrew Painter Saved the Season:
This is the story of the game. The Phillies bullpen was in rough shape after Jhoan Duran threw two innings in Game 1, and Don Mattingly needed someone to cover the late innings. He handed the ball to Painter, who was making just his third relief appearance of 2026 after coming out of the bullpen twice in the regular season.
Painter was incredible. He threw three innings, walked one and struck out three, and he never looked rattled. A rookie starter pitching the eighth, ninth and 10th innings of an elimination game on the road and slamming the door is as big as it gets. The Phillies don’t win this game without him.
Game 3. Same Time Tomorrow.
Now it’s one game for everything on Thursday. Zack Wheeler is ready to go, and Aaron Nola should be right there with him. After how the last week went, getting to a Game 3 with Wheeler and Nola available is about as good a spot as the Phillies could have asked for. One more win and they’re headed to the NLDS.

GG, but not gonna win tomorrow. I’m going bold and saying tomorrow is going to be a blow out. Have fun watching.
