Incredible: We really got GTA Philly before GTA VI
Rockstar has been dangling GTA VI in front of us for what feels like a decade, and a guy from Philly just beat them to the punch with an AI and a two-minute video. Jesse Wellens turned an Eagles tailgate into a full-blown Grand Theft Auto game, and it’s the best thing on the internet this week.
We really got GTA Philly before GTA VI. What a time to be alive.
This thing has everything. There’s a minimap in the corner, health bars and missions, all set against real Philly landmarks, with a few Wawa nods thrown in because obviously.
The stadium lot chaos is so accurate it’s almost a documentary. And when someone screams “Go Birds dickhead!” in the middle of it, you know whoever made this has actually been to a tailgate. That’s just a regular Sunday greeting in the Linc lots, and anyone who says otherwise has never parked there.
What I love about this is that no game developer in California could ever capture it. You can’t fake the energy of a South Philly parking lot at 9 a.m. on game day.
The comments are full of people begging for a full version, and I’m first in line. Give me a mission where I have to get from Broad Street to my seat before kickoff without spilling my beer.
Give me a GTA Philly side quest where I defend the tailgate from a Cowboys fan who wandered into the wrong lot. Give me a health bar that only refills at Wawa. I would play that game until my thumbs fell off.
