Don’t read too much into this. Every offseason, all eligible players on the 40-man roster get recalled to the major league roster.
It’s a procedural move, not a sign of who’s in the plans for 2027. That said, seeing Kerkering’s name on here is a reminder that he’s still on the 40-man and arbitration-eligible. He shouldn’t be by the time the Phillies have to tender contracts.
The other piece of housekeeping is the 60-day injured list. Every player on it has to be activated no later than five days after the World Series ends.
Here’s who’s currently on it:
- Adolis GarcÃa
- Brad Keller
- Caleb Kilian
- Felix Reyes
- Johan Rojas
GarcÃa will be activated and then head straight to free agency after his season ended with a torn lat in June. Keller is due a raise in 2027, so his health is going to matter a lot as the Phillies figure out the bullpen. The rest are depth pieces the front office has to make decisions on as it clears 40-man spots.
This is the boring part of the offseason. The real moves come once the World Series wraps up and Dombrowski, or whoever is running things by then, has to start reshaping this roster.
