Cam Jurgens is the lowest-graded guard in the NFL and Nick Sirianni says he’s pleased with how he’s playing
Cam Jurgens is the lowest-graded guard in the NFL through four games, and Nick Sirianni just said he is pleased with him.
Asked Monday if he is considering a change at left guard after the 24-20 loss to the Rams, Sirianni said, “No, I’m pleased with where Cam is.” He added that there will be plays Jurgens wants back. Every lineman has those. Few have the tape Jurgens has put out this season.
The Numbers Say Cam Jurgens Is the Problem
Pro Football Focus ranks Cam Jurgens 73rd out of 74 qualified guards. Among the 67 guards with at least 100 snaps, he is dead last. PFF has charged him with 12 pressures, all of them in three games at left guard, and that is the most on the Eagles. SumerSports had him for five pressures against the Rams, the most of anyone on the line.
Then there is the goal-line play. On third-and-goal from the 2, analyst Brett Kollmann said Jurgens slightly false started, got on top of Jalen Hurts too quickly while pulling, and hit the ball as Hurts took the snap. The bobble meant there was no handoff, and a play that likely scores did not. The Eagles lost by four.
Cam Jurgens signed a four-year, $68 million extension in April 2025, with $39.4 million guaranteed. That money is spent whether he starts or not.
Sirianni Has to Be Held Accountable for Cam Jurgens at Left Guard
Coaches own this, too. The Eagles moved Jurgens from center to left guard after Landon Dickerson went on injured reserve, and PhillyVoice reported that Jurgens got zero training camp reps at guard. That was the staff’s decision. Leaving him there for three games after it failed is also the staff’s decision.
The standard has to apply to everyone. Cam Jurgens has two Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl ring. Neither one is playing left guard this season.
The offense finished with 172 yards, went 0-for-12 on third down, and did not score in the second half. Nobody in that building gets a pass, and the player at the bottom of the guard rankings should not be the exception.
Willie Lampkin Should Start Over Cam Jurgens in London
The Eagles play the Jaguars on Sunday morning in London. Landon Dickerson is eligible to return in Week 6 against the Panthers at the earliest, and there is no guarantee he is ready. The Eagles need a left guard now.
Willie Lampkin had a great training camp, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia, and played the first two offensive snaps of his NFL career against the Rams. Rookie Micah Morris, a sixth-round pick, is also on the roster. Lampkin could be bad. Nobody knows yet. Everybody knows what Cam Jurgens is right now.
Twelve pressures. Last among guards with 100 snaps. A bobbled goal-line snap. Two straight losses. Bench Cam Jurgens.
