Japanese man swears he’s slept 30 minutes a night for 17 Years, livestreams it to prove the haters wrong, and faceplants on Day 4
This is my favorite kind of internet story, the one where somebody like this Japanese man makes an insane claim, gets so confident about it that they decide to prove it on camera, and then gets humbled in front of the entire world in real time.
A Japanese man has been running around for years claiming he only sleeps 30 minutes a day and has been doing it for 17 years straight. People called BS, so instead of letting it go, he set up a livestream to show everybody for a full week.
He made it four days.
On day four he wakes up from his little 30 minute power nap and drops like a sack of potatoes on his own stream. Seventeen years of bragging, undone by Thursday. Incredible stuff.

Well At The Very Least, We Finally Have the Number:
Science has spoken. The human limit on 30 minutes of sleep a night is exactly 17 years and 4 days. Not a minute more. If you want to try this at home, set a calendar reminder for 17 years and 3 days and go take an extended nap, you’ve earned it.
I’m kidding, obviously, because there is zero chance this guy has actually done this for 17 years. Zero. He’s been doing it for four days, and we have the footage of how that ended.
I Know a Thing or Two About Not Sleeping:
This isn’t coming from some eight hours a night, white noise machine, silk pillowcase guy. I barely sleep. I run on four or five hours a night and I hold up just fine, but even I need a day every now and then where I crash hard and get my life back.
That’s what real sleep deprivation looks like. Thirty minutes a night isn’t a grind, it’s a hostage situation your body eventually ends by unplugging you mid stream.
I just got a crash course in it. I’m in London right now with Cass, courtesy of Phans of Philly, because somebody has to come over here and save the Birds’ season against the Jaguars.

We were wheels up out of Philly at 7:30 Tuesday night and I could not sleep for a single second on that plane. Landed around 7 in the morning London time thanks to the time jump, then hauled ourselves to the hotel, which happens to sit right next to London Bridge.
Great views, great vibes, and by noon on Wednesday I was a walking corpse. I couldn’t have told you my own name. One overnight flight with no sleep turned me into a zombie, and this guy wants me to believe he’s been living like that since 2009.
Not a chance.
Streamers will do anything for content, including committing to a lie so hard they pass out live on the internet trying to prove it. Respect the dedication, I guess, but go to bed, my man. This one kept flooding my feed so I had to say something.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a Jaguars beatdown to rest up for.
