Believe it or not, the Eagles can still right the ship in 2026

Times are bleak here in Philadelphia, all thanks to the Eagles (mostly).

The Phillies got knocked out of the postseason early, but that was to be expected. The Flyers haven’t won a game yet and the Sixers are still a week away from what we all hope will be a great season. Only time will tell.

For now, we’re stuck with the Eagles, and while it feels like the walls and caving in and our descent into the abyss is iminent, I still think there’s reasons for optimism here. It may not be what anyone wants to hear right now. Believe me, I get it. Just hear me out on this and by the end, maybe you’ll feel a little better about it too.

The Eagles are injured to all hell, but those guys will return

The Eagles haven’t dealt with this many injuries in years. Nick Sirianni’s tenure has been defined by a few things, but one of the most overlooked is the team’s ability to keep their stars upright and playing late into the season. This year, they haven’t been afforded that luxury.

DeVonta Smith has missed multiple games, the offensive line has two Week 1 starters remaining, their top-three running backs are all sidelined, the list goes on. The defensive side of the ball isn’t much better, although they have been able to keep most of their key starters intact.

There are two positives here. One, all of the offensive guys will return at some point, namely Saquon and DeVonta. Within the next week or two, both should be back and both will help a ton. Secondly, we’re getting to see some of the young guys play and while that doesn’t necessarily bode well for them immediately, it’s great for the future. Guys like Willie Lampkin, Drew Kendall, Darius Cooper, and Makai Lemon are all getting extended playing time, and all of them have shown that they can be competent starters in this league.

The defense is still a world class unit

The Eagles defense got off to a rough start through the first three games, but they’ve come alive over the past two weeks. They played well enough to win against the Rams and Jaguars. They’re causing turnovers, getting sacks, and holding opponents to under 25 points. That’s a recipe for success for any defense.

Plus, I obviously trust Vic Fangio and the defensive coaching staff to continue getting the most out of their players. Jalen Carter has come alive, Quinyon Mitchell is still playing at an All-Pro level. Not to mention the questionable guys like Andrew Mukuba, who played like dogshit in the first three games, only to start flashing the real potential he has over the past two.

They are shooting themselves in the foot, and believe it not, that stuff is fixable

Despite the countless injuries the Eagles have been dealt, the overall theme of this three game losing streak has been constantly getting in their own way.

The play calling against the Bears, the mismanagement at the end of the Rams and Jaguars games. These are things that can be fixed. They don’t have the personnel they once had. It’s on Nick Sirianni to grab the bull by the horns here and do what has to be done to start winning ball games. You don’t have time to waste.

For all intents and purposes, Sirianni is coaching for job over the next month. If they continue to lose in this fashion, he will be gone before the season ends. Every successful season Sirianni has had has been marked by one thing — in season adjustments. In 2021, he gave play calling to Shane Steichen and it got them to a Super Bowl the next season. In 2024, they leaned into their running game and posted historic numbers en route to a Super Bowl victory. In 2023 and 2025, the red flags were masked by constantly winning.

The collapses happened at the end of the season, and by that time, it was already too late. We’re in the first week of October. No one’s season is defined by what happens this early in the campaign. It’s defined by what happens in November and December.

Maybe I’m a dumbass for even believing the Eagles can right the ship. I guess we’ll find out in the next month. I’m just not willing to concede the season based on five weeks. Call me crazy.
