Phillies “Daycare” mural at Garage Fishtown has been painted over and rumor has it, they are going to curse the city with a LeBron James one next
End of an era. The Phillies “Daycare” mural on the side of Garage in Fishtown has officially been painted over, and a new one is going up as I’m writing this. The rumor is that it’s going to be LeBron James and I have to be honest, I already hate it.
LeBron James Mural Replacing The Daycare at Garage Fishtown?

The Garage Fishtown Mural Has A Record…
Let’s take a quick look at the history of this wall. First, it was Matisse Thybulle. Great defender, couldn’t shoot, and I’m honestly not sure he’s still in the league at this point.
Then came the “Daycare” mural with Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm. Stott has never been the player that mural made him out to be, and Bohm is 30 years old and spent the last few years cosplaying as one of the “young guys” on the Phillies.
Both of those murals stunk.
We all know what the Sixers have done over that stretch, and we all know how the Phillies’ season just ended in Atlanta. I’m not going to sit here and say a painting on a wall in Fishtown cursed two franchises but I’m also not going to say it helped.
Why LeBron James Is the Wrong Call:
This isn’t me hating on LeBron James. I’m thrilled he’s here and I get the hype, but the man hasn’t played a single regular season game in a Sixers uniform. He already has murals all over the country, including a few right here in Philly.
That’s plenty for now.
Nobody in this city is going to forget what LeBron James looks like. Slapping him on the wall in Fishtown before he’s done a thing for this city is getting way ahead of ourselves. We’re a week away from opening night, and it’s time to lock in. The pomp and circumstance tour for LeBron is over. The welcome party is done, the press conferences are done, and now it’s time to go to work.
If LeBron James brings a championship to Philadelphia, you can pull William Penn off the top of City Hall and stick LeBron up there for all I care. Until then, he’s not mural-worthy in this city. He hasn’t earned it yet, and Philly doesn’t hand out walls for showing up.
Put Embiid on the Wall:
The answer is obvious. It should be Joel Embiid first and foremost. He’s been the face of this franchise for a decade, he’s taken every shot the national media could throw at him and he’s still here. Nobody in this city has earned a wall more than he has.
If they don’t want to go with Embiid, then make it Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. That’s the present and the future of this team, both of them were here before LeBron James showed up, and both of them actually mean something to the people walking past that wall every day.
I’m not trying to be a hater. I’m being realistic. Let LeBron James earn it in Philly first. Until then, give the wall to the guys who already have.
