Relax: Trump calls LeBron James a “total disgrace” for getting a golf swing in during the National Anthem

LeBron James has played exactly one regular season game for the Sixers, and he’s already in a fight with the President of the United States.

During the national anthem before Tuesday’s opener against the Knicks, LeBron James was spotted taking a few practice golf swings in his Sixers warmups while the rest of the team stood.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump went after him on Truth Social, calling him a “TOTAL DISGRACE” and saying LeBron disrespected the country and owes an apology to the service members who died for the flag.

This isn’t the first time LeBron has done the golf swing routine. He did the same thing last year on Christmas Day with the Lakers, and he’s done versions of it going back to at least 2019. It’s also not the first time Trump has taken a shot at LeBron.

Earlier this year, he said Michael Jordan was better, called Jordan a friend and golfing buddy, took a swipe at LeBron and admitted that he only likes people who like him.

A 41-year-old professional athlete loosened up before tip-off by doing a golf swing. That’s it. He didn’t kneel, he didn’t walk off, he didn’t make a statement. He stretched. If anything, what’s more American than squeezing in a practice swing any chance you get?

I understand why some people care about this. Personally, when I go to games, I stand, I take my hat off for the anthem and I cheer for the military members and first responders who get recognized. It’s a sign of respect, and I think it matters.

Plenty of people feel the same way, and they’re not wrong to feel it.

However, there’s a big difference between that and getting outraged because a guy got a little loose before a basketball game. Nobody is getting hurt by a LeBron James golf swing. That’s just the King locking in before tip-off.

Not to mention, you see KCP stretching things out in the same video. Who cares.

Protect the realm at all costs. LeBron James is a Philadelphia 76er now, and he’s ours. The President of the United States has a lot bigger things on his plate than how a basketball player warms up in Midtown. He should relax.

The Sixers are 1-0, LeBron is focused on winning in Philly, and the only swing anyone in this city cares about is the one that ends with the ball going through the net.
