The 2026 Eagles are a classic case of holding on one year too long

The Eagles’ season from hell continued Monday night, losing to Dallas 38-21. The offense showed signs of life, Makai Lemon looked good at least. But that’s really the only positive right now. The $328 million defense sucks ass. They have no pass rush, Cooper DeJean and Riq Woolen look lost out there, and outside of Zack Baun, they have no reliable linebackers.

For all intents and purposes, this season is over. But it didn’t have to be this way. This could’ve been the year of re-tooling. Instead, Howie Roseman and Jeffrey Lurie decided to hold on for one year too long. The writing was on the wall last year. Nick Sirianni’s offense was pathetic, Vic Fangio flirted with retirement, Jeff Stoutland left, AJ Brown got traded. Running it back under these circumstances was a miscalculation on Howie’s part, and that’s putting it lightly.

First things first, the Eagles need to move on from Sirianni

There’s no way around it, Nick Sirianni has lost this team. Jordan Mailata questioned the Eagles’ “want to” after the Carolina game, then the defense responded last night by giving up 204 yards on the ground to the 31st-ranked rushing attack. Stopping the run doesn’t require a bunch of run stuffing All-Pros up front. It takes effort. The Eagles did not try hard enough last night, it’s as simple as that.

When the effort is gone, so is the locker room. The body language on the sidelines was sad, no one is stepping up to lead this team. There’s just no juice with the Eagles, and that falls squarely on Sirianni.

The CEO coach who is supposed to get his guys ready to play and manage the game has been piss poor at it all season long. If he’s not going to call plays and try to fix the offense, what is he actually providing to the team right now? A few close ups per game of him hooting and hollering like a frat bro? The schtick is getting old.

The team scored on their first drive of the game for the first time all season. The camera pans to Sirianni, and you’d think he just won the Super Bowl. Stop it. Just fucking stop. You’re a dead man walking. I don’t give a fuck if this is who you are, stop acting like a child.

If everything continues on its current trajectory, I don’t know if Sirianni makes it through the year.

Howie Roseman had a bad offseason and it’s showing

For the first time in a long time, Howie did not put his team in a great position heading into the year.

He let Nakobe Dean and Reed Blankenship walk, two guys the team could sorely use right now. Rather than bringing back guys we know are good fits, he went out and signed Riq Woolen who is clearly not a scheme fit in Vic Fangio’s defense. He traded for Jonathan Greenard who was injured all offseason and has barely made an impact. And he completely neglected the safety position, opting to put all his chips on Andrew Mukuba and 31-year-old Kenny Moore.

Their defense has no edge rushers to speak of, one good linebacker, two bum safeties, and overpaid defensive tackles. Jordan Davis got paid this offseason and has not made a single play all year. Jalen Carter is inconsistent, and Moro Ojomo is probably going to get traded.

Offensively, Howie’s biggest sin was keeping Sirianni around. We can sit here all we want and talk about how bad Kevin Patullo was, it was Nick Sirianni’s offense he was running last season. Sirianni provides nothing to this team anymore. Gotta cut bait, and Howie should have realized that last year.

So, suffice to say, this season can’t end soon enough. The Eagles need a clean slate. No one is safe. Coaches, players, everyone is expendable.
