WATCH: Braden Mann’s 86-yard bomb pins the Giants at their own 6
The best play the Eagles have made all day comes from Braden Mann.
This game has been pillow fight. The Eagles were clinging to an 8-6 lead with under 30 seconds left in the first half and were backed up deep in their own territory. Nick Sirianni sent out Braden Mann, probably just hoping to avoid giving the Giants a cheap field goal.
Instead, Braden Mann hit the ball into orbit. It traveled 86 yards before rolling out of bounds at the Giants’ 6-yard line.
Braden Mann Punt
FOX’s Joe Davis nearly fell out of the booth, saying it had to be close to the longest punt in NFL history. Relax, Joe. It’s not even top five but it was still a nuke.
The real record book
The Jets’ Steve O’Neal owns the record with a 98-yarder in Denver back in 1969. The Patriots’ Shawn McCarthy is second at 93 yards in 1991. The third belongs to Randall Cunningham, who hit a 91-yard punt in 1989.
Yes, Eagles legend Randall Cunningham also owns one of the longest punts the league has ever seen. Pretty wild. Braden Mann’s 86-yarder ties Larry Barnes of the 1957 49ers for 10th all-time, according to Pro Football Reference.
So no, it’s not a record but it might be the first time all season Eagles fans got excited about a punt. With this offense, Braden Mann is the most reliable weapon they’ve got.
