76ers Knicks Game 2 Joel Embiid

LISTEN: 76ers broadcast makes premature call before officials hand Knicks a Game 2 comeback win, gives fans confetti PTSD

As if last night’s Game 2 between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks could be any worse, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s local broadcast of the matchup, had Alaa Abdelnaby and Kate Scott “calling game” for the Sixers with over 47 seconds left in the game.

We all know what happened next.

With the Philadelphia 76ers leading by six points with just under 47 seconds left in the game, Alaa Abdelnaby was on the NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcast and told everyone dumb enough to watch the local feed instead of the national that “The goal is getting homecourt advantage by winning one of the two games on the road. Job done. Let’s head down to the turnpike.”

Kate Scott then added that the postgame show would be “fun.”

Zero fun, Kate. Aided by one of the worst officiating crews the NBA has ever employed (L2M Report here) the New York Knicks drained two threes in the closing seconds to steal Game 2 and take a 2-0 series lead against the 76ers.

Local Broadcast called ‘game’ for 76ers, Knicks win

Why were either calls made with roughly 47 seconds remaining and the Sixers up just 6-points on the road against the New York Knicks in the sold out, legendary arena that is Madison Square Garden?

The hell if I know. I definitely was NOT watching the local broadcast. I know better. Even during the regular season, I watch Philadelphia 76ers basketball on mute.

It’s honestly embarrassing how bad Alaa and Kate can be at times and blowing your load on a Sixers win in the playoffs is a real bad look.

It reminds me when The Wells Fargo Center preemptively dropped the confetti after Marco Belinelli hit a shot to tie the game, only for the Sixers to lose to in overtime to the Boston Celtics.

The Sixers honestly have been cursed ever since. Now, we have the internet clowning our broadcast crew while reminding Sixers fans how we have the worst luck in the history of the NBA come playoff time.

Kate and Alaa need to sharpen up when the series shifts to South Philly on Thursday night.
