Speed Kills: Raiders Twitter admin makes brutal misstep announcing new draft pick
The Raiders were excited to welcome Mississippi State corner Decamerion Richardson to the team after selecting him with the 112th pick in the NFL Draft. The DB has some serious wheels, running a 4.34 40-yard dash, ranking third amongst corners in this draft.
The Raiders tweeted out a clip of his 40-yard dash captioned “Speed kills,” seemingly forgetting that a former speedster of theirs, Henry Ruggs, literally killed someone at an unprecedented speed:
First of all, I’m not here to shame the Raiders for this mistake. If they were one of the other 31 NFL franchises, nobody would have batted an eye.
Unfortunately for them, they’re the Las Vegas Raiders, and Henry Ruggs did drunkenly plow into and kill someone going 156mph while under contract for them, so they were going to get dragged for this one.
I understand why they deleted the Tweet, but, honestly, they should have left it up. The accident happened three years ago, Ruggs is in jail, and the culture in that locker room has changed dramatically. It’s pretty much a brand-new team.
That said, if I had to choose between them tweeting something completely different or tweeting this and leaving it up/taking it down, I’d just have them tweet something else entirely. Alas, that wasn’t what happened, and now I have to write a blog making fun of them for it.
That’s the way of the world we live in, folks.
