Game Recap: Flyers 5 @ Capitals 2

Entering the evening the Flyers found themselves 3 points behind the division-leading Capitals. Now, after winning their 7th in a row, they are only 1 point out of the top spot with a game tomorrow night against the Hurricanes back in Philadelphia.

1st Period:

After the first 10 mins of the period, there were only a combined 8 shots on net for both teams. A little past the midway point, Washington’s Lars Eller got the Caps on the board after a world-class series of passes found him in front of the Flyers’ net.

2nd Period:

7 minutes into the middle period on the powerplay, TK picks up his 24th of the year after picking up a rebound from a Provy blast from the point. (Provorov, Giroux)

The Flyers have 4 powerplay goals in the last 2 games

Shortly after a Flyers’ power play expired, NAK threw the puck towards the net where the puck caromed off of Derek Grant’s skate right to Hayes and a wide-open net. (Grant, Aube-Kubel)

DEPTH. SCORING. Tyler Pitlick buries one on an odd-man rush to take a two-goal lead. (Raffl, Grant)

After a Flyers’ turnover, Garnet Hathaway takes advantage to cut the league back to 1.

3rd Period:

Provorov puts the lead back to 2 goals after a wicked wrister from the circle. (Voracek)

Good things will happen when you get pucks to the net. Laughton scores off of Orlov’s skate to put the game out of reach. (Hayes)

This was a playoff game tonight. Going into hostile territory getting a win in this fashion is a big tell who this team is. This team is legit, and if you aren’t on the bandwagon yet, hop on, this is going to be a fun ride.

Player of the Game: Kevin Hayes (1G, 1A)

The Flyers are now 19-0-1 when Kevin Hayes scores. His impact on this team cannot be understated and come playoff time the young players on this team will look to him to set the tone just as he’s been during this current hot streak.

unfiltered, opinionated, and certainly do not care if you like it or not.
