Preview: Hurricanes at Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are good. Coming off an impressive victory last in DC against the 1st place Capitals, the Flyers immediately need to shift their attention to another hungry opponent in the Carolina Hurricanes in South Philly.
Carolina has had some recent success against Philadelphia. In their last 10 meetings, they have posted a record of 6-4. Last time these two teams met, the Hurricanes won in overtime 5-4. The Flyers sure have their work cut out for them; they will be facing elite scorers like Sebastian Aho (36 goals) and Andrei Svechnikov (24 goals). We’ll need to rely on our defense to slow down the scoring attack and keep shots off Carter Hart.
Key to the Game:
As stated above, this game is all about defense. This has been a highlight point of success for the Flyers this season. With young workhorses like Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim, to the savvy vets like Matt Niskanen and Justin Braun, it really is the perfect balance of youth, and veteran leadership. Our defense also has a MASSIVE offensive upside, they lead the league in goals scored at 43. If we can shut down their top scorers, it’ll only add to the confidence level.
Player to Watch:
The Captain has put together a pretty good season so far. Although the last five games, he has only posted 3 points in the stat sheet. I’m looking for a statement game from Mr. Giroux. Just to remind everyone that he’s still here and this is HIS team. Claude is 4th on the team in goals and assists, this is mostly due to other players on the team actually stepping up rather than him carry most of the workload. I see a multi-point game from the captain tonight.
