First Half:
The first half started out very slow as both teams tried to figure each other out. There weren’t many highlights. As we got closer to the end of the half, the Union had a couple of chances but couldn’t put one in the back of the net. New England Revolution had a good chance on goal in the 34th minute but Union goalie Andre Blake continues to shine, as he made another big save.

Second Half:
The Revolution came out of halftime very fast and had some great opportunities on goal. Even with all of the control the Revolution had, the Union had one opportunity and made it count. In the 63rd minute, Sergio Santos scored with a beautiful finish that was assisted by Jamiro Montiero through ball. Santos had quite the celebration after what was his sixth goal with the Union and his 3rd against New England Revolution.

This goal completely changed the momentum to the Union’s favor. One player that stood out was defender Kai Wagner. Andre Blake continued to impress in the second half, making some big saves to keep the Revolution scoreless.

The Union went on the defensive following this goal to secure the win and move on to the next round. They didn’t play the perfect game, but they got the job done. Here’s some of what Union head coach Jim Curtin had to say in his opening statement after the game.
“We handled it very well in terms of how we defended as a team for the course of the 90 minutes obviously Andre made some good saves which is always necessary against a good team like New England. I thought that the play in particular of our outside backs defensively was excellent whether it was making a tackle, a big block, or a clearance.”
The Union play in the next round on July 30 at 8:00 pm EST. Their opponent will be decided tomorrow following Sporting FC vs Vancouver.
Can’t watch the Quarterfinals?
Don’t worry we have you covered. Our good buddies over at Fox Sports The Gambler announced that they are the NEW HOME for Philadelphia Union Soccer. Gotta love it. Sean Brace and the rest of the crew over there are fantastic, and even have our guy Victor Williams locked in as an Eagles Insider for the upcoming NFL season.
