Semi-Final Preview: Philadelphia Union vs Portland Timbers

The Philadelphia Union take the field against the Portland Timbers in the Semi-Final round of the MLS is Back Tournament. The Union are coming off their best game yet, beating the New England Revolution 3-1 in the Quarterfinals. They continue to impress and in another “win or go home” scenario, they will be ready for the challenge.
History Between the Teams
Tonight’s match is the 11th meeting all-time between the teams, with the Timbers leading the series 6-1-3.
Portland Timbers Scouting Report
Following a 3-1 victory against NYCFC, the Timbers are coming into the game with great confidence. Midfielder Sebastián Blanco has been an important part of Portland’s success. He has been involved in seven of the team’s ten goals in the tournament. The Union’s defense led Kai Wagner and Mark McKenzie will have to be ready once again for Portland’s attack.
Union Players to Watch
Andre Blake: If you haven’t figured it out by now, Andre Blake is my favorite player on the Union and for good reason. Every game so far, Blake has played a huge role in the Union’s success. I expect the same thing tonight, especially if it goes to penalty kicks.
Brenden Aaronson: Aaronson continues to impress and had his best game of the tournament last week. He plays a crucial role in the Union midfield and attack. If he can deliver the passes he made last week, the Union should have many opportunities to score.
Sergio Santos: Following a two-goal performance and now leading the team in goals, expect Santos to have another big performance tonight.
Kai Wagner & Mark McKenzie: These two defenders have led the Union’s backline and have only allowed one goal in the past two games.
Prediction: 2-1 Union
I think that this game could go either way, but with how well the Union have played recently, I see them winning this game and advancing to the finals.

Don’t worry we have you covered. Our good buddies over at Fox Sports The Gambler announced that they are the NEW HOME for Philadelphia Union Soccer. Gotta love it. Sean Brace and the rest of the crew over there are fantastic, and even have our guy Victor Williams locked in as an Eagles Insider for the upcoming NFL season.
