Phillies slide into the weekend with a walk-off win against the Mets

Spencer Howard was back on the mound tonight as the Phillies took on the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park.

Howard did not pitch well, throwing 3 1/3 innings, 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. In the first inning, Didi Gregorious botched an easy double play ball that resulted in a fielders choice, so we won’t blame Howard there, but he has to be better.

Fellow top prospect Alec Bohm however, has contributed immediately after his MLB debut last night. Bohm singled to shallow center in the second, scoring Didi Gregorious and advancing Jean Segura to third, who was then knocked home by Roman Quinn.

Bohm also flashed the glove at 3rd base too. Gotta love this kid.

JT Realmuto hit his 8th home run of the season and now has 20 RBI’s. Why the Phillies haven’t signed him yet is starting to get pretty ridiculous. You simply cannot let this man walk.

The Phillies took a 5-4 lead heading into the 6th inning. Jose Alvarez and Blake Parker both pitched scoreless innings for the Phillies. Girardi made a pitching change in the 6th and Adam Morgan entered the game.

Tommy Hunter was solid tonight and pitched 1.2 innings letting up no runs. In came Hector Neris and everyone watching thought he was going to blow this game.

NOT SO FAST…Neris allowed 2 men on with no outs before striking out the next 2 batters.

…Then it happened. Neris allowed a run and blew his 2nd save of the week.

In the bottom of the 9th, Roman Quinn singled to centerfield to put a man on with 0 outs. McCutchen singled to left to put 2 men on with no outs. Hoskins, who had a great night, chased a ball outside and struck out, bringing up the man himself, Bryce Harper.

Bryce Harper hit a single to right and Roman Quinn rounded 3rd base, making an incredible slide to beat the tag at the plate. And just like that, the Phillies got the win 6-5 with a walk-off single from Bryce Harper.

We’re back.

OTHER NOTES:

The Vanimal is in Philly. No further comments at this time.

JD Hammer has been added to the active player pool for the Phillies. Hammer Time was a fan favorite in 2019 while going 1-0 with a 3.79 ERA, 1.421 WHIP, and 13-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio spanning 20 appearances and 19 innings.

John Clark on Twitter:

Only Aaron Judge has more home runs than JT Realmuto this year. JT Realmuto and the Phillies also missed an entire week of the season. Simply amazing.

Give Rhys Hoskins time. He’s in the middle of a swing change. It’s not the time to give up on Hoskins. He stayed down on a ball and roped it to dead center tonight, then scored on the Realmuto home run.

Ring that bell, baby.

unfiltered, opinionated, and certainly do not care if you like it or not.
