Flyers hold off late scare to beat Islanders in overtime 4-3

In a pivotal game two of their second round playoff series agains the Islanders, the Flyers were nearly burned late in the 3rd period. They blew a 3-0 lead and went into overtime. Phil Myers ripped a a shot from downtown and the Flyers escaped game two with a 4-3 win to bring the series at an even 1-1.

Before we got to overtime, Kevin Hayes scored two goals and Sean Couturier gave the Flyers a 3-0 advantage in the opening 20 minutes.

After the Flyers lost 4-0 in game one, they needed a solid bounce back win. The game started that way. Since my birthday, January 7th (I expect presents), in games after losses the Flyers are now 11-0-0 and have outscored the opposition 48-22.

That goes for Carter Hart as well, who has won the very next game each time after his three losses in the tournament. In those outings, he’s stopped an impressive 85 of 90 shots which is good for a 1.65 goals against average.

Kevin Hayes, the most overpaid hockey player in history, scored twice and is now a +8 through 11 games with playoff career highs in goals (3), assists (6), and points (9). What a terrible signing for the Flyers in what now seems like forever ago.

Claude Giroux hasn’t had the best playoffs this year but is making is presence known. The captain went 8 for 13 on face offs which jump started Hayes’ opening goal and assisted on Couturier’s goal.
