Key Points: Doc Rivers Introduced as 76ers New Coach

New 76ers coach Doc Rivers wasted no time in addressing the Sixers’ two franchise players, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, in his introductory press conference this afternoon.
Rivers started the interview stating that when the 76ers have Ben and Joel on playing together, they have won 65% of their games. He continued to say that it clearly works with both of them on the court together.
Key Points from Today’s Press Conference:
- Rivers believes that Matisse Thybulle is already an All-NBA defender.
- Rivers is excited to work with Tobias Harris again after the success Harris had on the Clippers.
- It was hard for Rivers to forget the 39 point performance that Shake Milton had against his former team. He’s excited to coach Shake and believes that Milton will continue to have success under him.
Of course, Rivers was asked about Ben Simmons shooting the basketball. He answered by telling reporters that he was not that concerned about the lack of shooting, but more interested in “team scoring” and Simmons’ ability to distribute the basketball and make players around him better.
Accountability and pace of play were also mentioned more than once in today’s press conference. Rivers touched on how he has managed different “superstar” personalities in the past and how he and the team have to see who their leaders are on and off the court.
Pretty great first impression for Doc Rivers as he spoke to reporters from the Sixers practice facility in Camden. Whether it’s because we finally have a new coach or specifically because the coach is now Doc Rivers, there are definitely reasons to be excited.
