Jim Gott is out as bullpen coach for the Phillies

In shocking news to absolutely no one, Phillies’ bullpen coach Jim Gott will not have his contract renewed for the 2021 season. Gott has held the position since 2018 after spending the previous 8-years in the minor leagues.
The Phillies bullpen was historically bad this year with an ERA north of seven. The team as a whole, hasn’t made the playoffs in almost a decade. Changes need to be made and early signs this offseason indicate just that.
I mean look, I’m sure Jim Gott is a great guy and the majority of blame for a lousy bullpen can’t be on him, but you can’t stick around a ball club after a season like the Phillies’ had in the pen. It was an inevitable departure for Jim Gott. Bryan Price understood this and announced his early retirement a few weeks ago.
More layoffs are definitely ahead. Last week the Phillies trimmed their scouting department by seven. Now that we have that out of the way. Let’s re-sign JT Realmuto and Didi Gregorius and start this offseason off with a bang.
