Black Sixers jerseys returning this year?

The return might be here. For some Sixers fans this is a dream come true. Many have been advocating for the return of the Allen Iverson era black and red jerseys for over a decade. Fans have not been alone in this front. Ben Simmons has been avidly pushing to bring back the throwbacks for several years now.

Back in 2017, 76ers President Chris Heck and Ben Simmons reached an agreement. If Ben won rookie of the year, he could design their next city jersey. Flash forward 3 years later and Heck has finally agreed to the terms for this season.

The precursor to this discussion was Ben saying in a now deleted tweet that he wanted to see the return of the Sixers black uniforms. With 2020-2021 being the 20th anniversary of the Sixers last finals appearance it seems to all be falling into place.

Personally I’m not the biggest fan of the look but there is definitely a large crowd that enjoys the look. Although it would’ve been expected to be under the classic category, Memphis is also using their City uniform slot for a throwback to their black Grizzlies jerseys.

With several of the league’s jerseys already being leaked you could see them very soon.
