Report: Phillies are promoting Sam Fuld to General Manager

According to reports, the Philadelphia Phillies have found their new General Manager. Sam Fuld will be named the Phillies new GM per Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Additionally, Jorge Velandia has been promoted to assistant general manager and Terry Ryan to special assistant to the general manager.
Fuld is a big analytics guy and has been working with the Phillies as the Director of Integrative Baseball Performance since 2017. Quite the job title, but basically, he would assign work to players, coaches, and report numbers back to the team’s research and development department, as well as front-office staff. He’s been a hot name across the MLB and was mentioned as a potential candidate for the Red Sox GM position earlier this year.
All reports indicate that he is very well-respected across the league and will serve as Dave Dombrowski’s right-hand man in the Phillies’ front office. Fuld will have the opportunity to learn from one of the best front-office veterans in the league in Dombrowski. It’s exciting news for the Phillies as they continue to move slowly through this offseason attempting to “re-tool” their ball club.
At this point, I don’t really care either way. Fuld sounds great. He’s young and extremely smart. The Phillies have plenty of work to-do and until I see some action in free agency, they could hire the Phillie Phanatic to be the new general manager for all I care.
