Flyers Split Series 1-1 with Buffalo

Going into this series a lot of question marks started to pop up for the Flyers. The biggest was how the team would respond to the absence of their first line center Sean Couturier, and how the defense would respond to some questionable play.

Game One: 6-1 Loss

Ah the classic Flyers dud game, some things never change. Curtis Lazar kicked off the scoring with a beautiful backhand on Carter Hart and the Sabres never looked back. Hart never even had a chance this game and would eventually be pulled for Elliott.

This was easily Gustafsson’s worst game to date, he was a turnover machine and was practically giving Buffalo goals.

Flyers would get a garbage time goal late in the third but the absence of Sean Couturier was surely felt in this 6-1 loss at home.

Game Two: 3-0 Win

For the entire 2019-20 season, everytime the Flyers had a dud game they always responded and this was our chance to see if this team still had that in them. Well, a shutout definitely does the trick.

Brian Elliott was the story of this game, it feels like our goaltending has been the most valuable part of the team thus far. Stopping 40 of 40, Elliott was just simply fantastic in this game and it’s everything you ask for in your backup.

Konecny broke the ice on a five-hole breakaway goal off the nice feed from Lindblom.

Voracek gets his first on the year off an odd man rush with Kevin Hayes, good to see Jake get his first. Hayes would cap it with the empty net.

Morgan Frost and Phil Myers would leave this game with injuries and are set to have a MRI tomorrow, not good. Two big losses especially with the loss of Couturier, sucks to see Frost potentially lose his shot to play big time minutes.

Huge series coming next against Boston starting Thursday. First road trip of the season, let’s see how it goes.

3-1-0.
