Philadelphia Union Officially Unveil New 2021 Secondary Kit

Today, the Philadelphia Union have officially unveiled their new secondary kit for the 2021 MLS Season. The colorway has never been seen before in the club’s ten-year history. This jersey was created by a group of fans, the Union Creators’ Collective. The Union Creators’ Collective was launched in 2019 to build a group of fans to help in the jersey design process. Over the past two years and through COVID-19, the group met numerous times to come up with their final design.
“BY|U” stands for blue and yellow Union kit and has a blue base with a lightning pattern with bolt yellow accents. This represents Ben Franklin’s famous electricity experiment. On the neck tape of the jersey is a quote from Ben Franklin, “Energy and persistence conquer all”. Franklin believed that those three things could never be defeated.
Here’s a statement from Doug Vosik, the Chief Marketing Officer for the Philadelphia Union regarding this new kit.
“The new kit is truly by the fans, by ‘the U’. Fans wanted colors influenced by the flags of the Delaware Valley, a design inspired by innovation born in our city, and they wanted to shock the soccer world, this kit is Philadelphia. The gritty, beautiful, diverse, creative place that we all love. As a Philly native and an original season ticket holder years before working at the Union, I have not had a prouder moment in bringing our community together to shape the future of our club.”
This kit will be available for pre-order on February at 10:00 AM ET for Kit Launch Experience attendees only. It will officially be on sale on MLSStore.com and Adidas.com on February 5 at 10:00 AM ET. The official sponsor of the Union, BIMBO will be donating five loaves of Artesano bread for every jersey sold to the food insecure population of Chester through CityTeam.
