Ron Hextall swipes Friedman off waivers for the Penguins

After being placed on waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers yesterday, defensemen Mark Friedman has been claimed by none other than the Pittsburgh Penguins, led by Ron Hextall. Friedman was the 86th pick in the 2014 draft by Ron Hextall while he was in Philadelphia. The two will now be reunited in Pittsburgh.

Friedman only appeared in four games this year for the Flyers as the fringe 6th defenseman and even had to play forward during the Lake Tahoe game thanks to a Flyers roster that has been decimated by COVID-19 protocols over the last few weeks. Last season, he notched just one assist in six games with the Flyers. Friedman was signed through next season at a $725,000 cap hit.

Losing the 25-year old right handed defenseman and getting absolutely nothing in return is less than ideal for the orange and black. Additional moves, most likely call-ups from the taxi squad, are incoming.
