Philadelphia Union to open MLS season April 18 at Columbus, home opener is April 24 vs. Miami
The Philadelphia Union learned today that they will open the 2021 season on the road against defending MLS Cup winners, the Columbus Crew on April 18th at 5:30pm. The Union beat the Crew twice down the stretch last season. It will be a nationally televised match between the MLS Cup and Supporters Shield winners on FS1 and Fox Deportes.
Since 2016, the Union have not won a game on the road against the Crew. That stretch includes give losses and one scoreless tie. The MLS season for the Union will open up four days after the Concacaf Champions League series with Costa Rica’s Saprissa. The Union will be in Costa Rica on April 7th before hosting a match at Subaru Park on April 14th.
As for the home opener, the Union will host Inter Miami on Saturday, April 24th at 8:00 pm. Last year when Miami came to Chester, they left with a 3-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union. The games will be televised on PHL17 and of course, you can listen to the game on Fox Sports Philadelphia, The Gambler.
We are still awaiting word on tickets for home games via the Philadelphia Union. According to state guidelines, they are allowed to have 20% capacity at outdoor events.
