Philadelphia Union Beat Saprissa 4-0; move to the Next Round of the CONCACAF Champions League

The Philadelphia Union hosted the second leg vs Deportivo Saprissa at Subaru Park last night with around 5,000 fans in attendance. After a scoreless first half, the Union caught fire early in the second and ended the night with a dominant 4-0 victory over the Costa Rican soccer team. They will now join three other MLS teams in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals.
Less than a minute in, Anthony Fontana was fouled in the box, giving the Union a penalty kick. Jamiro Monteiro drilled it right into the center of the net to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, Przybylko found the back of the net and Fontana added another to give the Union a three goal advantage in seven minutes.
Monteiro added his second goal of the night to give the Union a 4-0 final in Chester. With the win, the Union join Atlanta United, Portland Timbers, and Toronto FC for an MLS-dominated Concacaf League quarterfinals. They will face Atlanta United in an all-MLS match. For their first CCL appearance, the Union have impressed by getting passed Saprissa. Jim Curtain and the Union will have to shift gears for their MLS season opener against the 2020 MLS Cup Champions, the Columbus Crew, in just four days.
