Philadelphia Union Match Preview: Columbus Crew SC

After advancing into the next round of the CONCACAF Champions League, the Union looks to start their MLS regular season on a good note. They will be traveling to Columbus to face the defending MLS Champions, Columbus Crew. This will be a great matchup and a good test for Jim Curtin and the Philadelphia Union.

Columbus Crew Scouting Report
The defending champions are back with basically the same roster and there is talent everywhere in their starting XI. The Crew coming off of a successful first-round victory in the CCL just like the Union. Gyasi Zardes leads the way for the Columbus Crew attack, he’s going to be a player to watch this afternoon. Surrounding Zardes are Lucas Zelaryan and Pedro Santos. Their defense is just as talented with the best center-back in the MLS Jonathan Mensah anchoring the line.
Union Keys to Victory
The Union are coming off of a historic win for the club in the CCL and will have their hands full with this talented Columbus squad. Even after losing some key players to transfers this offseason, it is clear that the Union will remain a threat in the MLS this season. Facing this extremely talented attack, the Union’s defense needs to be at their best today. The loss of Mark Mackenzie this offseason puts pressure on center-backs Jack Elliot and Jakob Glesnes. They will be both key parts of the match result, and it will be a great test to start the season.
