Scott Kingery: Phillies roster moves ahead of today’s 1:05pm game vs Giants

The Philadelphia Phillies have recalled RHP Spencer Howard from Lehigh Valley. Jean Segura, who got hurt yesterday, is heading to the 10-day injury list with a right quad strain. The Phillies, in desperate need of an infielder, more specifically a second baseman, have recalled Scott Kingery. Ramon Rosso has been optioned to Lehigh Valley. Spencer Howard will give the Phillies another bullpen arm with Archie Bradley and Jose Alvarado both on the injury list.
I don’t like this at all. Scott Kingery is an absolute mess right now and needs time in the minors to fix his swing. Hopefully I’m wrong, but the pressure of being called up to replace an injured Jean Segura who entered yesterday with the team’s best batting average won’t turn out well for Scotty. With Torreyes on COVID protocol and Segura on the injury list, don’t be surprised if Kingery gets sent back to the minors to work on his swing sometime over the next two weeks before the minor league season begins in early May.
It looks like the Phillies are out of options, which is a whole different issue for a different article on a different day.
The same concerns come with Spencer Howard, who clearly isn’t ready to pitch at the major league level. Again, the Phillies are lacking major pitching depth, so it gives them little flexibility when calling up players.
Jetpax SZN is back on. Break out the shirts. Let’s hope the last month in the minors will bring us a rebuilt and refocused Scott Kingery. I sure hope it does, but I certainly won’t be holding my breath.
