Howie Roseman finally endorses Jalen Hurts as QB1

After numerous rumors surrounding the quarterback position, it looks like the Eagles have finally decided to throw their full weight behind Jalen Hurts. Howie Roseman appeared on Sirus XM NFL Radio to discuss last week’s NFL Draft and was asked about Hurts this upcoming season. Earlier this offseason, both Roseman and Sirianni were very hesitant to commit to Jalen as QB1 and were linked to recent draft pick Zach Wilson and even Deshaun Watson:
“Certainly you’re judging him off of four NFL starts, in a tough situation with all the injuries that we had…. We want to see him grab the job and kind of run with it and see what you do over a period of time.”
Roseman continued to say how they want to give Hurts the best opportunity to succeed in the right offense with a fully healthy offensive line and a bolstered receiver group. This statement comes as a significant change of pace after Howie said they were open to all options at quarterback back in March.
Despite it looking like they are committing to Hurts, it still lines up with the idea that he will get just one season to prove himself as the Eagles QB of the future. If things don’t pan out next season, the Eagles will probably look for a QB during the 2022 NFL Draft, owning up to three first-round selections.
The Eagles have done a tremendous job this offseason to help Hurts, having drafted his college wideout, DeVonta Smith, adding help in the running game, and providing depth to an offensive line that was a weak point in 2020.
