Weekend Rips: Sixers on the brink of elimination in Game 6, God is dead

What a week. Two Sixers losses, thousands of views on The Liberty Line, and one commissioned photoshop later, I’m still standing. Hopefully, you’re still here with me. Regardless of the emotional turmoil that we all experienced over the last five days and change, we still have one thing to look forward to – the weekend.
Don’t fret about the blown leads and disappointing losses. Worry not about how badly your social skills deteriorated over the last year. Simply head to your local sports bar, get an ice-cold beverage on draft, and take in some premium athletic competition. It doesn’t matter that the bartender you try to flirt with thinks you look and sound like an Appalachian hermit, nor does it matter she told all her coworkers that your buddy is the better-looking of the bunch. Just drink those boozy beverages and slip slowly into the soft embrace of the weekend. It’s time to let it rip.
Sixers
If you told me last weekend I’d still be writing about Sixers vs. Hawks this week, I’d have told you you’re a dummy. If you then followed up by saying the Sixers would be down 3-2 heading into Game Six, I’d probably have stabbed you repeatedly in the torso. Luckily, nobody I know said that, or I’d be watching the game from prison instead of the comfort of my couch. On the other side of the coin, the Sixers blew an 18 point lead Monday night and a 26 point lead on Wednesday.
Obviously, I’m not all that optimistic about our squad’s ability to pull it out. However, after reading Drew’s Sixers playoff manifesto (and providing the cover art), I’m back from the brink. I spent 24 hours staring into the abyss as it stared back into my soul. Now, all I see when I look into the chasm of existence is “Sixers in 7.” Go Sixers.
Catch Game Six on ESPN at 7:30 pm and check out our preview here.
Phillies
Okay, honestly, as I’m typing this, I have no idea how I’m supposed to care about the Phillies this weekend. They play Gabe Kapler’s Giants (pukes) on Peacock, for god sake. I already made my feelings about that known here at TLL, and I won’t go any further. This is an actually important series for the Phils, and it’s buried behind a paywall. Fuck it, I’ll be too hungover from the Sixers game, win or lose, to give a shit.
9:45 tonight and 4:05 Saturday and Sunday on Peacock. Who the hell cares. Go Sixers.
US Open
Another Weekend Rips yields another major tournament lovefest. The US Open is on this weekend and is being held at the iconic Torrey Pines. Along with being one of the world’s most beautiful courses, the California track is one of golf’s toughest tests. I don’t have a pick for this one because I’m a neurotic mess.
Just tune into Fox Sports The Gambler (102.5 FM – 1480 AM) for US Open picks and all things sports betting. They’ll take good care of you.
European Championship
We here at The Liberty Line are loving the Euros, and you should too. Granted, most of the guys just love it because it’s another avenue for gambling, but no matter. The boys are buzzing about the dynamite matchups over on that godforsaken landmass that is the continent of Europe.
The Liberty Line
The last month or so has really been catastrophic for TLL haters. Breaking click and view records left and right is one thing, but becoming a real deal business? Who had that on their TLL Takeover bingo card? I’ll tell you who: Victor Williams and Drew Smith. Don’t believe me? Just check the footer of the website and figure the rest out for yourself.
Is this the peak? HELL. NO. We’re just getting started over here at The Liberty Line. Let your favorite sports blogger know they should sleep with one eye open. We’re coming for their clicks.
Closing Remarks
Most weekends I’ll give the usual platitudes: drink up, have a smoke, whatever. Not this weekend.
I want you Sixers fans to drink beers like they owe you money tonight. Go out, stay in, does not matter to me. I want a beer shortage in the city of Philadelphia. LET. IT. RIP. And let’s go smack the Hawks.
The Liberty Line radio crew are reportedly recording tomorrow’s episode tonight after the Sixers game. Either way the cookie crumbles, that will be a must listen.
Sixers in 7.
