Jordan Mailata “relieved” Jeff Stoutland returned to Eagles

One of the best moves made this offseason by the Philadelphia Eagles was retaining offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Stoutland has been with the Eagles since 2013 and nearly left this offseason for the University of Alabama. Luckily for Philadelphia, that potential deal fell through, and Jeff Stoutland agreed to join Nick Sirianni’s staff in 2021.

During his tenure with the Eagles, Coach Stoutland has been monumental in developing several linemen, including Jason Kelce, Isaac Seumalo, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata. One of the biggest highlights of the 2020 season was Mailata’s dominant showing and cementing himself as the Eagles’ left tackle of the future. But when Jordan first heard that his coach could be on the way out, there was significant concern.

“Tell ya what. I almost had a heart attack when those rumors came out… I gave Coach Stoutland a call as soon as that article came out, and he reassured us that he was coming back. When it was all official and pen to paper, I was just very relieved, man. That’s like my dad.”

Mailata isn’t the only one that is glad that Jeff Stoutland is back in Philadelphia. Even though there was concern regarding his potential departure, Stoutland reassured Philadelphia that this is where he wants to be.

“This is the highest level of football that a coach could be. It’s like the ultimate position if you want to coach in the offensive line. There’s 32 coaches on the offensive line in the National Football League. That’s it. This is the highest level. I really love coaching in the National Football League, but most importantly, I love working for the Philadelphia Eagles, and I mean that sincerely.”

Hopefully, Jeff Stoutland will be around for several years to come. Currently, the Eagles are going through their voluntary OTAs, and while they were banged up to end last season, the Eagles’ offensive looks to be healthy. Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson are back at practice, while Landon Dickerson is on track to return on time following his torn ACL.
