Donovan McNabb, Joe Flacco, speak on Jalen Hurts’ leadership
The poise and leadership that Jalen Hurts has shown during his first offseason as the starting QB for the Philadelphia Eagles is tremendous. Over the last several months, numerous Eagles, current and former, alongside head coach Nick Sirianni have raved about Jalenโs work ethic and chemistry with the roster. Hurts had several Eagles wide receivers working out this past weekend while he ran a camp in Alabama.
This past weekend, former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb spoke with Rob Maaddi about Jalen Hurtsโ leadership skills but still questioned the Eaglesโ roster.
โEverywhere heโs been heโs wonโฆ I know the work that he put in this offseason and who he worked with so now he just has to build the chemistry with the coaching staff. You have to be able to build chemistry throughout that offense with the rest of the players. Do they have enough pieces around him to be successful is the question.โ
Now I agree the Eagles might not succeed this season, but McNabb has to realize this is a rebuilding year for the Eagles, right? At the same time, the Eagles are returning an elite offensive line, an exciting running back in Miles Sanders, and just drafted DeVonta Smith to pair with Jalen Reagor and Dallas Goedert. In recent years Donovan has been critical of the Eaglesโ roster, mainly Carson Wentz, for his poor play last season.
Despite that, McNabb isnโt the only one to praise Jalen Hurtsโ leadership recently. Backup quarterback Joe Flacco praised Hurtsโ drive to be a better football player. When Flacco first signed in Philadelphia, some criticized his inability to be a mentor, and it doesnโt look like thatโs the case whatsoever.
โYou can tell that in the meeting rooms, heโs attentive, he wants to get it right. And then out on the field, he does a great job of getting in the huddle, leading the guys, and being on top of what he has to do for the team.โ
There has been so much positive talk surrounding Hurts this offseason, and he truly has all the needed pieces to be a successful quarterback in Philadelphia. Hopefully, Jalen Hurts will come out in 2021 and prove all of his doubters wrong.
