Two Eagles legends rave about DeVonta Smith

Since he was drafted 10th overall a few months ago by the Philadelphia Eagles, wide receiver DeVonta Smith has been showered with praise. From his incredible work ethic, jaw-dropping talent to even giving back shortly after receiving his NFL contract, thereโ€™s so much to love about DeVonta.ย

This past weekend, Ron Jaworski hosted his 37th annual celebrity golf challenge in Egg Harbor City. At the event, Jaws and another Eagles legend spoke highly about the incoming wideout.

โ€œThis guy has a quick twitch thatโ€™s going to just blow people away,โ€ Jaworski said. โ€œYou canโ€™t touch him at the line of scrimmage. May not have the blazing top speed, but, man, can he get open. And heโ€™s tough as nails. Talk about his size. Heโ€™s literally never been hurt at Alabama. (Jaylen) Waddell was hurt more than DeVonta was, and heโ€™s a bigger, stronger guy. You just donโ€™t hit Smith, heโ€™s that quick, that agile. And when he gets hit, heโ€™s like a quarterback, he knows how to turn and avoid getting hurt. I think heโ€™s going to be a tremendous asset. Heโ€™s a great young man. The people in this town will love him. Iโ€™m really excited about DeVonta Smith.โ€

That is high praise coming from the former Eagles quarterback. This offseason Jaworski has been very high on the duo of Smith and quarterback Jalen Hurts. Ron wasnโ€™t the only former Eagle to praise Smith this past weekend. Longtime Philadelphia receiver Mike Quick spoke about DeVonta with high praise too. Quick was an Eagle for nine seasons and was named to two first-team All-Pros in 1983 and 1985. Here is what Mike had to say about DeVonta Smith.

โ€œI was just so happy to see that pick fall to the Eagles and see them make that pick,โ€ Quick said. โ€œJust to see a No. 1 draft pick at that position that I really believe could rewrite the record books, Iโ€™m excited to watch him mature.โ€

Quick and Jaworski are just some of the several NFL legends to praise DeVonta over the last several weeks. Isaac Bruce compared him to former Colts receiver Marvin Harrison, and Merrill Reese claimed he might be the best receiver heโ€™s seen in Philadelphia. There is a lot of excitement building around DeVonta Smith and Jalen Hurts, and hopefully, the two will be able to take over in 2021.
