Andrew McCutchen injured during the Phillies 11-1 loss to the Padres

During a brutal ninth inning for the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday, Andrew McCutchen left the game with oblique tightness. Cutch was visibly grabbing his side throughout the game and after Hector Neris let up six runs in the ninth inning, Cutch came out of the game as catcher Andrew Knapp was warming up in relief of Neris.
The Phillies will finish the first half of the 2021 season on a seven game road trip. Matt Moore will open up a four game series tonight in Chicago against the Cubs before the Phillies head to Boston to face the Red Sox for three games later this week.
The Phillies finally had a healthy starting lineup for the first time since early May. Joe Girardi stated after the game that Cutch would be re-evaluated today before the Cubs game and was unsure about the extent of his injury. After a slow start, Cutch caught fire in the month of June, slashing .301/.424/.603 with four doubles, six home runs, and 20 RBI.
Not only has Andrew McCutchen been valuable for the Phillies, he’s also on the final year of a three year $50 million contract and could be considered a trade piece depending on how well this seven game road trip before the All-Star break goes for the Phillies.
Matt Moore will be on the mound tonight for the Phillies as they open up a four game series against the Chicago Cubs. The Phillies are three games under .500 at 39-42. The Cubs are 42-42 and have won just once in the last 10 games.
