The Phillies will send 2 players to Denver for the MLB All-Star Game

In 17 starts this season, Zack Wheeler leads Major League Baseball with 139 strikeouts over 114 innings. He holds a 6-4 record with a 2.05 ERA and for the first time during his seven year MLB career, he is an All-Star. Joining him for the All-Star game, will be J.T. Realmuto, who will make his third career All-Star game after being voted in by other MLB players, managers, and coaches. Realmuto will serve as the backup catcher for the National League behind Buster Posey.
As for Wheeler, no starting pitcher has been named yet for the National League. I think it’s safe to say that Jacob deGrom and his 0.95 ERA over 14 starts would be the starting pitcher starting for the NL Team, however the Mets’ schedule might not allow him to be. deGrom is currently scheduled to pitch on Tuesday, which would schedule him to pitch again on Sunday, two days before the All-Star game. Wheeler will pitch on Wednesday and will be on full rest heading into the All-Star game, so there’s a chance that he could get the nod to start.
Phillies No. 2 prospect Bryson Stott will join Wheeler and Realmuto in Denver to participate in the MLB Futures game. Stott is the Phillies’ number two overall ranked prospect, and the top position prospect in the Phillies organization. Mick Abel, is ranked number one. Stott will follow Alec Bohm, who was selected to participate in the Futures game in 2019, which was never played due to COVID-19. Bryson was drafted 14th overall in the first round of the 2019 draft by the Phillies and has continued to climb the ladder in the minor leagues. He has batted .278 with four home runs and an .855 OPS since joining the Fightin Phils on May 1st. Before that, Stott lit up Single-A ball, batting .288 with five home runs and a 1.001 OPS in 22 games earlier in the season.
Bryce Harper made it to the final day of voting for the National League’s outfielders but didn’t make the final All-Star list. I was really hoping that Jean Segura would make the National League team at second base, but that didn’t happen either. On the season, Segura is batting .327 with three home runs and 21 RBI. He has spent significant time on the injured list. Adam Frazier (PIT) will start at second base and Ozzie Albies (ATL) and Jake Cronenworth (SD) will be reserves.

[…] A few hours away from first pitch, the Phillies have named the starting pitcher who will replace Nola. Bullpen bum Kintzler will be the starter or opener, depending on Girardi’s game plan for the nine innings to be played.
