Aaron Nola COVID Update and Expected Return

The Phillies return to action today with a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins. For roster moves and today’s game one lineup, you can click here. What was left off the initial report was an update on Aaron Nola. The Phillies have been without Alec Bohm, Aaron Nola, and Connor Brogdon since the Red Sox series due to COVID-19 protocols. As we await word on Connor Brogdon and Alec Bohm, we do now have an update on Aaron Nola.

Aaron Nola is reportedly back with the Phillies and has been cleared to return to play. This weekend’s pitching rotation has been set, but it looks like Aaron Nola will take the mound again on Tuesday in New York against the Yankees. It will be exactly 14 days since Nola’s last start. Hopefully the rest will do him well. He hasn’t pitched great this season and has a 4.53 ERA in 18 starts this year.

Matt Moore vs Sandy Alcantara at 4:05pm. Alcantara is 1-1 in two starts against the Phillies this season and has only allowed two earned runs in 14 innings of work. The Phillies haven’t been able to hit Alcantara at all, batting a collective .091 with a .348 OPS against him this year.

The Phillies are 3.5 games out of first place and at an even .500. It would be HUGE to come out and lay a beating on a bad Marlins team, but as we all know, that’s not an easy task for the Phillies.
