Roster Moves: Phillies recall Moniak as Jankowski heads to COVID-list

The Philadelphia Phillies made a few roster moves right before today’s series finale against the Atlanta Braves. They are currently up 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th inning with Aaron Nola on the mound looking to split the series against their NL East rivals.

Chase Anderson has been reinstated from the COVID-related injured list. Travis Jankowski on the other hand, will be heading to the COVID-related injured list. With Chase Anderson coming back, the Phillies have optioned Cristopher Sanchez to Triple A Lehigh Valley.

I have been talking about Mickey Moniak for two weeks straight. He has been on an absolute tear in the minor leagues as a member of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Moniak can’t keep himself off the Top Prospect Performers list. He’s absolutely on fire at Lehigh Valley for the IronPigs. Moniak entered July batting .205 in the minor leagues. His brief stint with the Phillies earlier this year didn’t go well either. It’s now July 25th, and Mickey Moniak has raised his batting average the whole way up to .257 and has a career-high 12 home runs with the Iron Pigs.

Moniak is now batting .361/.390/.722 with 19 RBIs through 19 games this month in the minor leagues. He’s been a top performer now three times in the month of July across the entire minor leagues.

Odubel Herrera got the start in centerfield today for the Phillies, but hopefully we will start to see more of Mickey Moniak. Calling him up to the Phillies roster and leaving him on the bench would be a stupid move, given how hot he has been for Lehigh Valley.

Hopefully we’ll see him this week, when the Phillies play the Washington Nationals, their last series before the MLB Trade Deadline. The Phillies have listed Vince Velasquez as Thursday afternoon’s starter. They will go Howard-Moore-Wheeler-Velasquez against Washington Nationals.

Lord help us.

Phillies are now in the top of the 5th inning agains the Braves and are currently winning 1-0 thanks to a Jean Segura solo home run.

Ring it.

unfiltered, opinionated, and certainly do not care if you like it or not.
