Mickey Moniak shines in Triple A, lands himself on MLB Pipeline’s Top Prospect List on Saturday

It’s always great to see my guy Mickey Moniak pop up in some baseball headlines. The former number one overall pick by the Philadelphia Phillies went 2-for-2 with a three run home runs and a run scoring double in game against Buffalo on Saturday. That game, just like the Phillies game, was suspended in the fourth inning due to some crazy thunderstorms yesterday.
Moniak got his work in early, with a home run, a double, and four RBI. It was his 10th home run of the season in Triple-A. He’s slashing .232/.295/.240 with a .454 OPS on the year with the IronPigs with 10 home runs, seven doubles, four triples, and 38 RBI.
Mickey Moniak has been on an absolute tear through 2.5 weeks of July for the IronPigs. He’s slashing .340/.384/.660 with an 1.044 OPS in 52 plate appearances. As we all know, Moniak had a few brief stints with the Phillies at the major league level this year but failed to take control of the centerfield position. At 23 years old, there’s definitely still time for Moniak to develop into the player the Phillies hoped he would be.

As the trade deadline approaches for the Phillies, it will be interesting to see what they do with a few of their big name prospects in the minor leagues.
For the Phillies, they have an opportunity to go TWO games above .500 today. The Mets will play Pittsburgh yet again today at 1:05pm. The Pirates are in last place in the NL Central but are now 7-3 in their last 10 games. They have beaten the Mets three games in a row.
Things could be very interesting by this evening but first, the Phillies need to beat the Marlins in extras and then have Zack Wheeler shut them down in a game shortly after.
