End of an era: Eagles shoulder pad superfan stepping down after 26 years

Lincoln Financial Field won’t be the same this season. Shaun Young, or as he is known by many, the Philadelphia Eagles shoulder pads fan, is retiring from his duties as a super fan. Young has been donning the face paint and pads for 26 years and feels it’s time. While he will no longer be wearing all his gear, Young will be still attending games in his “Brandon Graham #55 Salute to Service jersey”.

Shaun has been huge in the Philadelphia community and has even been inducted into the Pro Football Ultimate Fan Association’s Hall of Fame back in 2009. When he visits Canton every year, Young makes sure to visit Akron’s Children Hospital to spend time with the kids. He also started a program called “Drugs Are Nasty,” where he goes to schools and speaks to students about the dangers of drugs and how to avoid people selling them.

It will be upsetting not to have one of the Eagles’ icons in the stands this season, but sources tell The Liberty Line that the Go Birds Kid could take up the mantle. The Eagles season starts tomorrow, with players reporting to training camp and their first official practice on Wednesday.
