76ers waive George Hill to clear cap space

According to Shams Charania, the 76ers are expected to waive George Hill after speculation the Sixers would look to move the 35-year-old to save cap space. Hill does have a 1.2 million dollar guarantee on his contract, meaning the move will only save the 76ers around 8.8 million dollars against the cap.
George Hill was traded for at last year’s deadline as the Sixers were looking to bolster their guard depth. Philly was hoping Hill would provide a veteran presence to the second unit as they entered the playoffs. Hill didn’t suit up for the team until mid-April due to a thumb injury, and was lack luster during his time on the court. Hill finished his Sixer career averaging a measly six points off the bench, and had no impact on the 76ers playoff run.
Losing George Hill from an on-court standpoint means nothing as he well underperformed his expectations on the team. Thankfully he leaves Philly with a pleasant parting gift by saving the Sixers money as they continue to try and get under the cap. It is yet to be seen if Daryl Morey will address the loss with a different acquisition to bolster the guard play off the bench.
