76ers sign forward Georges Niang to a 2-Year Deal

NBA Free Agency has taken off over the last few days, with big names flying around everywhere to new teams. After signing Andre Drummond to kick off the day, the 76ers agreed to a deal with forward Georges Niang, a five year player most recently with Utah. Niang’s contract is a two year deal worth 6.7 million dollars.
Georges Niang is a career 40.4% shooter from deep, averaging 5.1 PTS, 1.8 REB, and 0.6 AST throughout his first five years in the league. Last season with Utah was his best season yet, playing 72 games with the team. He averaged 6.9/2.4/0.8 for the team, while shooting 43.7% from the field, 42.5% from deep, and 95.7% from the line.
Niang’s strongest ability is his shooting, something that the Sixers could always use. The team re-signed Furkan Korkmaz to a 5y/15M deal last night, but Niang will bring more shooting off of the bench, and bring it at a forward position, standing at 6 foot 7. Georges Niang will now fill that backup PF role, being a significant upgrade over Mike Scott.
With George Hill officially gone, and Danny Green rumors flying around, the team now has some money to work with. There are still several more names still out there on the board, never count Daryl Morey out to make more moves. Players like Reggie Jackson and Dennis Schroder are available with the Sixers having a few million still available.
