Rumor: The Warriors are “Divided” on a Ben Simmons Trade with 76ers

This off-season has been chalked full of crazy rumors regarding the Ben Simmons trade situation for the 76ers. There came points where it seemed like the Sixers would welcome Simmons back to the team thanks to little to no offers for the star. Then more recently, Kendrick Perkins said on “The Jump” that Simmons would sit out of training camp in order to be traded. Regardless of how truthful any of these “reports” and “rumors” are, they aren’t slowing down any time soon.
The latest rumor in the Ben Simmons trade saga revolves around a potential suitor, the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors have been linked to the 3x All-Star multiple times over the off-season, with talks seemingly stalling out due to the 76ers asking price. Now, it seems we’ve gained a bit more insight into why talks between the Sixers and Warriors feel so hot and cold.
A report from ESPN’s Zach Lowe suggests that the Warriors front office is divided on the idea of pairing Ben Simmons and Draymond Green. Some of the executives seem to believe the duo could work together, while others think the exact opposite. This rumor could explain why talks between the 76ers and Warriors about a potential Ben Simmons trade have stopped and resumed a couple of times already.
Personally, I believe that a pairing of Ben Simmons and Draymond Green makes little to no sense. If you asked me to name a player most similar to Ben Simmons in the NBA right now, I would say Draymond Green without hesitation. Both players pride themselves in their defense and facilitation, which has lead their scoring ability to falter. While Draymond Green has a jump shot to fall back on, unlike Simmons, both players general style and skillsets align.
Putting two players who are known to be shaky to bad when it comes to scoring on the same team sounds disastrous, even if two of the best shooters in the league are starting next to them. Personally, I don’t care if the Warriors decide the pairing could work, as long as the return for Simmons in that potential deal includes Klay Thompson. As with all off-season reports and rumors, the truth behind them is shaky. Regardless, it does make you wonder why a Ben Simmons trade to the Warriors continues you pop up and inevitably fizzle out.
