Former 76ers attempted to recruit Danny Green during free agency

It looks like the Philadelphia 76ers weren’t the only ones recruiting Danny Green this offseason. Earlier today, during Green’s press conference with Sixers media, he discussed how two former Sixers tried to get him to join them on their new teams. Both Dwight Howard and George Hill attempted to bring Danny with them to both Los Angeles and Milwaukee.
Dwight left Philly and signed a minimum deal to re-join the Lakers for the third time early in NBA Free agency. Dwight played with Green back in 2019 during the Lakers’ latest title run. Los Angeles didn’t seem like a viable choice, especially since they couldn’t offer more than the veterans minimum compared to the contract Green got from the 76ers.
George Hill was waived to open up cap space after half a season with Philly and ended up signing with his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. It would’ve been a similar situation to LA with Milwaukee not having any cap space to afford Danny Green. Regardless, it’s nice to see Danny choose the Sixers over these two title contenders. Alongside those two, others included the Brooklyn Nets attempted to conduct a sign and trade with Philly.
Another interesting note from the presser was that Green has not spoken to Ben Simmons since July 4th. According to multiple reports, Ben Simmons hasn’t talked to numerous members of the 76ers in the last months. Meanwhile, for the 76ers, they resume summer league play at 9:00 tonight against Atlanta.
