Former NBA star suggests Ben Simmons should seek therapy

It’s no secret that Ben Simmons was in his head during the 2021 postseason, most notably during game seven against the Atlanta Hawks. It was an all-around catastrophe, from missing free throws to avoiding jump shots and passing up open dunks. Numerous analysts and former players have given their input on how Ben should improve his game and fix his jump shot, but none are as unique as Metta World Peace’s idea.
Metta appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast, Club Shay Shay, and the two discussed Ben’s issues from the postseason. Metta suggested that Ben Simmons should seek sports therapy as a solution for his troubles and to help combat nervousness.
“Sports therapy is the most amazing thing ever. It’s why they have it. (Ben Simmons) should really seek it. It’s not that he’s psycho or that he’s crazy. Sports therapy is normal, and he should really consider it.”
When googling sports therapy on the mental aspect, I couldn’t find much information on the subject. I was able to find a little info and it looks to be exactly what you think it is—a psychologist who specializes in helping through anxiety and nervousness sustained during sporting events.
Many might call Metta zany for this idea, but it’s not a bad suggestion in the slightest. It’s clear that Ben has the talent, but he has outright refused to use it in his game. Currently, for Ben and the Sixers, things don’t seem to be on good terms, with several players and coaches having reportedly not talked to Ben in over a month as trade talks continue.
