This is the Phillies “Hat of the Homestand”?
The New Era hat disasters have simmered down over the past few months. After a string of very bad weeks of hat releases, it seemed that New Era got the message. That was, until earlier this afternoon, when the Phillies sent out the following tweet, announcing a new hat they are deeming “The Hat of the Homestand” which will be available exclusively in the Phillies New Era store at Citizens Bank Park.
Yeah. This hat sucks. I actually don’t mind the navy and big red bell but a super heroes brim? Really? Disney always seems to dip their dirty hands in everything these days. I’m sure the kids will like these hats, but for a bitter, suffering Phillies fan in my early 30’s, this isn’t going to do the trick. Sorry children, I’ve suffered long enough. We aren’t turning the Hunt for Red October into a Marvel Comics gimmick. I need the playoffs more than you need a hat you won’t wear after getting made fun of at your elementary school’s first “hat day” this year.
The Phillies are currently 2.5 games out of first place. They are 3 games back of the second and final Wild Card spot. 14 of the next 17 games will be at Citizens Bank Park and this is the rally hat? That doesn’t really sit well for our chances.
Luckily for the Phillies, the Rockies are a miserable 18-50 on the road this season and are 3-7 over their last 10 games. The Phillies tend to play down to competition but really can’t afford to do so for the rest of this season.
Ranger Suarez is on the mound. First pitch at 7:05pm.
