Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins land on the Hall of Fame eligible list for 2022

As the Philadelphia Phillies continue to rip our hearts out, two former players landed on the Hall of Fame eligible list for 2022. Both Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins are Hall of Fame eligible next year, and will join players such as Carl Crawford, Prince Fielder, Tim Lincecum, Joe Nathan, Jonathan Papelbon, David Ortiz, Jake Peavy, Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, and AJ Pierzynski.
Are Howard or Rollins first ballot Hall of Fame players? Probably not but both players definitely should have a shot at joining the MLB’s best in Cooperstown later down the road.
Ryan Howard Resume:
- NL Rookie of the Year (2005)
- NL Most Valuable Player (2006)
- World Series Champion (2008)
- NL All-Star (2006, 2009, 2010)
- Silver Slugger Award (2009)
- Hank Aaron Award (2009)
- NL Championship Series MVP (2009)
- Two-Time NL Home Run Champion (2006, 2008)
- Fastest player to reach 100 and 200 home runs in MLB history.
Ryan Howard is also tied with Sammy Sosa for third most National League seasons with 140 RBI and most National League 130 RBI seasons at four. Not something you want to put on your resume, but he’s also the MLB’s all-time record holder for most lifetime Golden Sombrero awards, which means he had 27 games with four strikeouts or more.
Jimmy Rollins Resume:
- NL MVP (2007)
- World Series Champion (2008)
- Silver Slugger
- Roberto Celmente Award
- Four All-Star Selections
- Four Gold Gloves
- All-Time Hits Leader in Philadelphia
- First in Doubles (479)
- Second in Games Played (2,090)
- Second in Stolen Bases (453)
- Third in Runs Scored (1,325)
- Eighth in RBIs (887)
- Ninth in Home Runs (216)
Rollins led the National League four times in triples and once in runs, stolen bases, and stolen base percentage. He was incredible in the field and was the Phillies leadoff hitter for nearly a decade and was the key player for the Phillies when they won the the NL East division four out of five times in the 200s.
Again, not sure if we’re talking first ballot Hall of Famers in Howard and Rollins, but we should continue to see them, along with Chase Utley, pop up as potential candidates.
The current Phillies are back at it tonight and will throw a bullpen game against the Rockies. They are 3.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East divisional race and 3.5 games back in the second and final NL Wild Card spot.
